PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT SERVICES IN COBURG, MELBOURNE

At DKM Psychology, our staff have the experience and resources to provide a range of assessments for children, teens and adults. Our clinicians can perform assessments to help identify intellectual disability, specific learning disorders, and neurodiversity (ADHD and Autism).

The results of assessments can be used as part of funding applications to help determine strengths and weaknesses in information processing and explore possible learning difficulties.

Types of assessments we offer

  • Cognitive Assessment

A cognitive assessment is also known as an assessment of intelligence (IQ). It assesses how an individual processes information, and can also identify any strengths or weaknesses.

  • Specific Learning Disorder

Specific learning disoders (SLD) are neurodevelopmental conditions that are characterized by a persistent impairment in at least one of three major areas: reading, written expression, and/or math. Some commone SLD’s are dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia.

  • ADHD Assessment

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, most commonly abbreviated to ADHD, is a neurodevelopmental disorder that impacts adults, children and those in their adolescence. For this reason, it is important to note that our clinicians have the capacity to perform adult ADHD assessment and child/teen ADHD assessments.

  • Autism Assessment

Autism spectrum disorder, commonly shortened to Autism or ASD is a developmental condition that can impact individuals at all stages of life. For this reason, our clinicians perform autism assessments for children, teenagers and adults.

  • Adult Combined ADHD & Autism Assessment

  • Child/Teen Combined ADHD & Autism Assessment

HOW LONG DO THE ASSESSMENTS TAKE?

Assessments can take between 8 and 20 hours to complete from start to finish, depending on the number of tests administered and sessions needed.

At DKM Psychology, we pride ourselves in our report writing as we do not re-produce reports from our scoring systems. Our clinicians take their time to produce a tailored report and list of recommendations specific to you or your child’s needs.

WHAT IS THE COST FOR AN ASSESSMENT?

Our current fees are detailed in the table below:

WHY DO ASSESSMENTS COST SO MUCH?

Our fees reflect the cost of the test materials, the time taken to administer, score, interpret results, and then the preparation of a report. Depending on the type of assessment, it can take a clinician 8-15 (sometimes more) to complete the process from start to finish. We also have all of our reports proofed by external supervisors who specialise in assessment and diagnosis of neurodivergent presentations.

DO WE OFFER LOWER COST ASSESSMENTS?

Yes. Although limited, our interns can provide assessments for a discounted fee (see table). Our interns are provisional psychologists who have a minimum of five years of university education and are currently undertaking supervised practice to gain registration as a psychologist. The fees cover the cost of the test and supervision, which is conducted by supervisors specialised in assessment and diagnosis. There is also an option for a combined-clinician assessment; that is a provisional and registered psychologist shares the load of the assessment. Contact the practice today to discuss this option.

WHY ARE THE FEES FOR PROVISIONAL PSYCHOLOGISTS SO MUCH LOWER THAN THE REGISTERED PSYCHOLOGIST FEES?

Most of our interns are completing an unpaid placement at our practice. The fess attached to their services are set only to cover the cost of test materials and specialised supervision.

WHAT IS THE CURRENT WAIT TIME FOR AN ASSESSMENT?

The current wait time to begin a new assessment is two weeks with a registered psychologist. We are currently taking a waitlist for those interested in our intern clinic.
